Looking for a supermarket
we find a beach,

five minutes drive
from our house –

this is New Zealand, not
America, after all,

and even the rocks sing
with cicadas.

We come back with nets
to pull rock cod

from their pools,
and watch them circle

around and around
in our supermarket bucket.
