The Poet's Tango

Karlo Mila

your words
pressing
into mine

back to back
on paper

my p
fitting
your d

as if to
create

a new
letter

a new
note

a consonant
or tone
not heard
before

and it would
be the sound
of air escaping
a half open mouth

the sound of lips
that have
never met

the sound of space
between
two bodies
that keep a
careful alphabet
twisting like an
accordion
between them

what is poetry
but the compression
and expansion
of all that can be felt
into strange spoken music

the unsaid
bellowing the obvious

chords between us

my friend
what I am trying to say is

without hands
face, skin or body
we have touched

and touch
is all
