For her, poetry (ii)

Jessica Le Bas

She reads Henry Lawson and Keats, says
Shakespeare is a tricky dick, and not for her, yet

She skips the bits where the words are glued together
says they taste good in her mouth
but she cannot swallow any of it

wouldn't know where to get such flavours, such sounds
of trains and cranes and brains
building another scaffold
another pillion passenger on board
another form of – transportation
            And it is poetry
            And it is life

Her wide open plain
her lane of pain and beauty
rain and sunshine.
