what I knew

Gerry Webb

Up-ended by a wave
water up the snoz

through floors of memory
to smell taste of clayey yellow water…

farm dam
diving through sunlit upper layer

way over your head
hollowed out by yellow D8s

when summer had no limit
rain a distant miracle

I prayed for
before sleep

after  pity mice implicitly
after  vain I would to thee be brought.

Parched round-backed hills
dust cloud rises from the mob

the dogs stalk and chase
when the farm was home

what I knew

now somewhere
on the other side of knowing

beneath the wave
penetrated

by accident
through scent and water
