You'll say, "I'll say."Anna Jackson
I was trying to straighten things out
but it is like throwing down
combs and having forests
spring up between us
till it is all so tangled
I don't even want to open up
anything anymore.
When we meet outside
this dark place – in public –
what will we ever be able
to say? I'll say, "those
were strange times
in email-land." We'll
focus on the objects
on the counter, stamp
our books, looking
resolutely ahead
while some receding
into the distance goes on
behind our tingling spines.
